Hot Mango & Plantain Sauce is unlike anything else in the Funkee Foods hot sauce range — and, for that matter, most hot sauces anywhere. It opens with an immediate tropical sweetness from ripe mango: bright, sunny, and instantly compelling.
Then comes the plantain — a deeper, more caramelised sweetness that is richer and earthier than the mango, adding a depth that grounds the fruitiness and makes this sauce feel genuinely substantial. Garlic and shallot weave through as the savoury undertone, while white wine vinegar and apple juice bring the brightness.
Then the scotch bonnet heat builds: slow, serious, and long-lasting. Customers put it perfectly: 'Never tasted anything like this before. Very different.'

What makes Hot Mango & Plantain Sauce different?
Funkee Foods' confirmed top best seller across the entire range — and once you try it, the reason is immediately obvious.
The mango and plantain combination gives the sauce two distinct layers of sweetness — the bright tropical fruitiness of mango and the deeper, caramelised richness of plantain.
Plantain in a UK hot sauce is a genuine first. Most consumers outside West African and Caribbean communities have never encountered plantain as a condiment ingredient. As Amanda says: 'Never tasted anything like this before' is exactly what customers say.
Rooted in West African culinary tradition. Plantain is a staple of the cuisine Amanda grew up cooking alongside her mother.
Amanda's Top 3 Dishes

Roast leg of lamb
The mango's brightness and the plantain's caramelised depth are a natural pairing for lamb. The scotch bonnet heat transforms what could be a rich, heavy dish into something vibrant and memorable.

Shrimp salad
Drizzled over a warm shrimp salad, the sauce acts as the dressing, the heat element, and the flavour bridge between the seafood and any greens or grains.

Roast chicken
Used as a marinade overnight, the mango and syrup caramelise into a beautiful glaze during roasting. The plantain depth adds a richness that plain fruit marinades can't match.

Quick recipe: Hot Mango & Plantain Glazed Roast Chicken
Spatchcock a whole chicken or use bone-in thighs. Coat generously with 4–5 tablespoons of Hot Mango & Plantain Sauce, getting it under the skin as well as over it. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours — overnight is better. Roast at 200°C for 45–55 minutes, basting once halfway through. The mango and syrup caramelise into a deep, glossy tropical glaze while the scotch bonnet heat builds into every piece. Serve with rice and a fresh salad.

The unexpected use: Hot Mango & Plantain Sauce stirred into vegan mayonnaise
Stir 2–3 tablespoons of Hot Mango & Plantain Sauce into a good vegan mayonnaise for an instant tropical, spicy dipping sauce or sandwich spread. The mango sweetness cuts through the richness of the mayo, the plantain adds depth, and the scotch bonnet heat builds underneath — making every dip or bite considerably more interesting than plain mayo could manage. Excellent alongside plantain chips, fried chicken, or as a burger sauce.
